Hungry – A Poetic Prayer

I was cleaning up my computer files yesterday and stumbled across a poem I wrote back in 2008.  I must have been reading C.S. Lewis, who deserves credit for the “too easily pleased” line.  It’s not about Thanksgiving per se but it seems somewhat fitting for this time of year:

Hunger
So much is offered with little to gain
Disguises of glory hide faces of shame
Riches of this world rot and they fade
While treasures of heaven will always remain
Our desires are weak; we’re too easily pleased,
And only in You is our hunger appeased
So create in our souls something anew
A reflection of glory, satisfaction in You
